Practical Matters

Preparing for a study abroad trip can lead to many questions. The following information will help clarify some of the practical matters when participating in Frankfurt Summer Universities.

The Federal Foreign Office in your home country can inform you if you need a visa to participate in Frankfurt Summer Universities. More information can be found on the Federal Foreign Office of Germany website

If you need a visa, your visa application will require a Letter of Acceptance by Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. We will be happy to provide you with all necessary documentation as soon as you have successfully registered for the Frankfurt Summer Universities and have paid your program fee. You will NOT be enrolled as a student at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. That means you will not need a student visa but simply a tourist visa (Shengen Visa).

Please allow enough time to apply for your visa. Visa processing can take up to six weeks and if you apply for your visa too late, you may not be able to participate in the Frankfurt Summer Universities.

Frankfurt Summer Universities does not cover health and travel insurance for the duration of the program you choose. Your home university will most likely provide you with information about health and travel insurance for your stay abroad. Another good source is International SOS, you can find further information about health and security risk management on their website. If you do need to see a doctor in Germany, make sure to bring your insurance paperwork with you.

In connection with the Corona Virus (SARS-CoV-2), Frankfurt UAS follows the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute, the Health Department of the City of Frankfurt, and the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts. Further information on the current risk assessment for Corona infections, hygiene measures and an overview with questions and answers can be found on the Robert Koch Institute website or the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA).

If you book accommodation through Frankfurt Summer Universities, you will also need to inform yourself about and adhere to the accommodation's preventative measures and hygiene concept.

The program fees for Frankfurt Summer Universities include public transportation within Frankfurt for the duration of the program you choose. You can download the RMVgo-App or Google Maps on your smartphone to find all public transportation connections. Visit RMV for more information.

Many people use public transportation in Germany and the public transportation network in Frankfurt is reliable and safe. You can use your public transportation ticket for all subway lines (U-Bahn), tram lines, suburban train (S-Bahn), and bus lines. You should carry your transportation card and a form of ID with you every time you use the public transportation.
