Practical Matters for Frankfurt Summer Universities

When you are planning to study abroad, there are some practical matters you should take into account. You can find helpful information about visas, health insurance, public transportation, and directions on how to get to the program accommodation from the Frankfurt Airport and Train Station.

If you need a visa, your visa application will require a Letter of Acceptance by Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. We will be happy to provide you with all necessary documentation as soon as you have successfully registered for the Frankfurt Summer Universities and have paid your program fee. You will NOT be enrolled as a student at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Goethe University of the University of Art and Design in Offenbach. That means you will not need a student visa but simply a tourist visa (Shengen Visa).

Please allow enough time to apply for your visa. Visa processing can take up to six weeks and if you apply for your visa too late, you may not be able to participate in the Frankfurt Summer Universities. 

The program fees for the Frankfurt Summer Universities cover health and liability insurance for the duration of the program you choose. Please let us know if you need any further information about insurance in Germany.

The program fees for Frankfurt Summer Universities include public transportation within Frankfurt for the duration of the program you choose. You can download the RMV-App or Google maps on your smartphone to find all public transportation connections. Visit RMV for more information.

Many people use public transportation in Germany and the public transportation network in Frankfurt is reliable and safe. You can use your public transportation ticket for all subway lines (U-Bahn), tram lines, suburban train (S-Bahn), and bus lines. You should carry your transportation card and a form of ID with you every time you use the public transportation.

How to get to the program accommodation from the Frankfurt Airport:

Taxi

To take a taxi to the Hotel, it will take you about 15 minutes and the price will be about €20-€30.

Public Transportation

It will take you about 20 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport using public transportation, the price of the ticket will be about €4,80.

  • At Frankfurt Airport, proceed to Terminal 1 then follow the signs for Regional Trains.
  • Take either regional train S 8 or S 9 (direction Frankfurt, Hanau, or Offenbach Ost).
  • At the stop Hauptbahnhof change to the regional train S 3 (direction Bad Soden).
  • Get off at the stop Messe.
  • Walk 400m in the direction of the Hauptbahnhof. The hotel is located on the corner of Emser Brücke/Europa Allee.

How to get to the program accommodation from the Frankfurt Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof):

Taxi

To get to the Hotel from the Train Station, it will take about 8 minutes and cost around €10.

Public Transportation

It will take you about 5 minutes to get to the Hotel using public transportation the price of the ticket will be about €1,85.

  • From the train station, take the regional train S 3 (direction Bad Soden).
  • Get off at the stop Messe.
  • Walk 400m in the direction of the Hauptbahnhof. The hotel is located on the corner of Emser Brücke/Europa Allee.
